Songs: My Five Current Faves

By SARAH DINETZ

Eyes Open- Taylor Swift

This new Taylor

Swift song is so different from all of her other songs. It’s dark and haunting, but I absolutely love it!

We Are Young- Fun.

This alternative-sounding song is unlike anything that has been on the radio lately. It’s super catchy, and it’s an anthem for young people everywhere!

Dancin’ Away With My Heart- Lady Antebellum

I’m a huge Lady A fan, and this song is one of my favorites of theirs! It tells an adorable story, and the harmonies are absolutely beautiful.

Call Me Maybe- Carly Rae Jepsen

Talk about a catchy song! This song is super fun, and I guarantee that if you listen to it once, you won’t be able to stop yourself from singing it!

This Little Girl- Cady Groves

Probably the least known song on this list, “This Little Girl” is nothing short of awesome! Cady Groves, an up-and-coming pop singer, has an amazing voice, and this song is the perfect mixture of dark and fun.

My America’s Got Talent Audition Experience

By SARAH DINETZ

On a recent Monday, I went up to New York City to audition for the hit NBC show “America’s Got Talent.” I want to share a little bit about my audition experience with you.

It started a few weeks ago when America’s Got Talent announced that they were adding one day of auditions for the upcoming season, and they happened to be only two hours away. My parents are very supportive of my music, so my mom agreed to take me. I pre-registered online and started practicing.

The auditions would take place between 10 am-10 pm. My mom and I decided that we would go up after I go home Read the rest of this entry »

Can the Music: Microsoft vs. Google

By RYNO

Microsoft is known for their software products but is trying to get into the search engine world while Google is a search engine trying to move its way into the app world. Microsoft spent over one billion dollars advertising their search engine “Bing” that nobody uses except for people who Google the word Bing and happen to accidentally click on that website. With its ever-growing user population,
Google has implemented many apps that people can use through their site such as Google Spreadsheet and Google docs that have been very successful among its users.

Microsoft decided to try to show people the flaws in Google apps by making a video that I find really terrible.

Jewish Teen Leadership and BBYO Programs: A Commitment to the Jewish Community

By IRA J. DOUNN

I began my career with BBYO in North Carolina at CLTC (Chapter Leadership Training Conference) in the summer of 2010 — barely knowing what the acronym “CLTC” stood for and not really knowing how it fit into the larger BBYO picture.

I came into the organization without preconceived notions, and also without any BBYO knowledge whatsoever. Fortunately, the teens showed me the ropes – the CLTC teen coordinators helped me with the procedural aspects and taught me about BBYO leadership structures, responsibilities, how to run elections, and perhaps one of the greatest possible lessons of all: BBYO is actually a teen-led organization. That is to say, BBYO serves as one of the few places on earth where the teens have been entrusted with the honor and responsibility of running their own Read the rest of this entry »

iTournies: iT’s iNcredible

By SARAH DINETZ

From Feb. 4-5 one of the biggest events of the year for South Jersey Region BBYO took place: Tournies — an annual all-nighter during which chapters in the region compete against each other to win the spirit stick (for the girls) or the Spam (for the boys). This year’s theme was technology, with the event being called iTournies: #There’sAnAppForThat. Around 300 teens and staff members came to the event, which lasted from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

The evening started off with icebreakers, allowing members of different chapters to meet. We then had a lovely Havdalah service planned by our regional Sh’lichim, Samara Levin and Alex Read the rest of this entry »

Cruise with Bad Crew

By RYNO

This past weekend

Costa Concordia, a cruise ship, smashed into a massive rock off the coast of Giglio, Italy.  With over 4,000 passengers aboard evacuation was difficult but was done with few casualties.

The Captain told everyone it was a minor electrical problem and asked them to remain calm. This worked until all were ordered to get their life vests and proceed to the life rafts. Then everything went wild.

The evacuation plan was not reviewed with the passengers prior to  departure and people were shoving, causing many injuries.  The crew said that they usually do not review the evacuation plan with the passengers until a few days into the trip. Why wouldn’t you get it out of the way first?  No idea.
